Own the category before you optimise the funnel.

Capture versus generation

Most growth stacks are built entirely to capture demand: search ads, retargeting, checkout tweaks. That works right up until you've captured everyone already looking. Growth then stalls, and the instinct is to optimise the funnel harder when the real lever is generating more demand to pour into it.

Branded search is the truest signal

If you want one number that tells you whether a brand is actually growing, watch branded search: how many people type your name, not your category, into a search bar. It's the closest thing to a real-time read on whether you're becoming a brand or just buying transactions. When it climbs, everything downstream gets cheaper.

Content that earns discovery

The discoverability that lasts comes from genuinely answering the questions your buyers ask, not from stuffing keywords into thin pages. Be the most useful source on the two or three things your category actually wonders about, and both people and algorithms will route toward you.

The AI-answer era

Search is being reshaped by AI answers, and the game has shifted from ranking a blue link to being the source an answer engine cites. Structured, credible, genuinely expert content is now the raw material those systems quote. The brands investing in it are quietly compounding an advantage that's very hard to buy back later.
